On the road to Mungundi....and beyond.

We're on the way to Carnarvon Gorge and not too much to report.
Lots of long straight roads.
Flat lands.
But a couple of discoveries along the way.

1. Moree. Next time you pass through Moree be sure to stop at Yaama Ganu Centre. It's an art gallery with local indiginous art and a great little cafe. with more than acceptible coffe and yummy homemade cakes.Lunch looked not too shabby as well. It's just across the road from a park with an amazing rocket-slide-thing.

2. St George was busy. By the time we got there 2 caravan parks were full and we managed to squuze into a spot right next to the road. It sounded like we were actually living in the middle of the road as the trucks roared past.

the view from our van at St George over the vineyard *

3. Roma is famous for bottle trees apparently.

G was inspired by the stop in Moree and the countryside to compose a little bush ballad.

I’m travellin’ the road to Mungindi with my girlie by my side
We stopped at Moree for morning tea but I didn’t buy a pie
I elected instead for an apple slice that in the display case looked so neat
But munching it down was a messy affair and far too much to eat.

And speaking of messy, the towns we pass look as if they shouldn’t be there
There’s no one walking the streets at all, kestrels fluttering in the air
Are the only signs of life you spot in these flat land, cotton regions
A crow flies away from a dead roo’s leg and galahs fly past in legions.

It highlights the import of having a mate that can share in a longish trip
With a bit of an eye for seeing some fun in this landscape of hardship
So how lucky am I to spout these words and ‘diarise’ with pride
I’m travellin’ the road to Mungindi with my girlie by my side.

Tonight we are camped at the less-than-scenic but very convenient racecourse at Injune.
It has electrickery.
Costs $15 a night.
There are showers and toilets and they supply firewood.
Bargain!

* what you can't see is the main road in between!
