Collarenebri like many country towns has obviously seen better days.
It makes me sad to see the old shops closed and businesses gone.
However, the best thing about Collarenebri is the free campsite just over the river.
You can camp near the road where there are sites set out and you are near the toilets and showers - yes, free hot showers!
Or if you are a bit more adventurous and reclusive - like us - you can camp down by the river.
And wake up to a parade of pelicans floating by.

Salt lake essay
The ethereal beauty of the salt lakes captured us and we took a bazillion photos.
This is Lake Hart.We camped next to it before the turn off to Woomera on the Stuart Highway.
It was mined for salt and apparently it was beautiful salt, but the last shipment sits forlornly next to the railway line, waiting in vain for the last 80 years to be picked up and delivered.
The remnants of the salt pans can be seen.
They look like old fence stumps being encrusted with the ever-present salt.A great free camp.
